Care

General care

Every piece of jewellery is hand crafted by Yasmin Hackett in her Melbourne based studio.

~

All jewellery is handmade and requires care to ensure its longevity. Its recommend to remove all jewellery when applying makeup, perfumes, sleeping, swimming, showering, gardening and doing household chores.

Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive substances and refrain from knocking on hard surfaces as this could potentially scratch or chip metal or stones.

Sterling Silver

Sterling silver will oxidise and tarnish over time, this is caused by exposure to things such as chemicals, perfumes, body lotions and oxygen. The best way to combat oxidisation is to wear your jewellery! Alternatively, a great way to clean your silver is with a soft cloth or toothbrush and warm, soapy water.

Ensure you properly dry before storing, preferably in a zip lock bag or box to prevent scratching and the oxidation process.

Gold

Gold is a very easy metal to maintain. It doesn’t tarnish or oxidise and does not require regular cleaning. It is best to avoid bumping on hard surfaces, as gold can be quite a soft metal depending on its purity. The higher the carat the softer it will be, and more prone to dinting.

To clean, simply use warm, soapy water and a soft cloth. Thoroughly dry before storing.

Gold plating

Gold plating requires a little care while being worn and cleaned. Plating is a surface treatment and can wear and fade over time. It’s recommended to always remove plated jewellery prior to exercise, showering, moisturising, swimming and sleeping. To clean, use mild, soapy water and a very soft brush. Dry with a soft cloth. Store separately away from other jewellery in its original packaging.

If your jewels are looking dull feel free to get in touch to arrange re-plating.

Pearls

It’s recommended to keep pearls safe in a soft dry environment as they are porous and vulnerable to acids and abrasive materials. To clean your pearls, simply wipe them with a soft, damp cloth to remove excess oils and dirt. There is no need for detergents, alcohol or other cleaning solutions.Avoid submerging them in water and apply perfume and hairspray before wearing pearls. All the above chemicals can compromise a pearls lustre.

Gemstones

Gemstones can be extremely delicate and should be worn and cleaned with care. Please avoid knocking against hard surfaces as they can be easily chipped and damaged. To clean jewellery with gemstones simply use warm soapy water and a soft brush to remove any dirt and build up residue.

Please get in touch if you’d like a complementary professional clean to bring your jewels back to life.
